What we do

When consulting foresters meet new people, the conversation always turns to the question, “What do you do for a living?” Simply telling them that you are a Consulting Forester does little to explain your day-to-day work life. They have yet to learn what a Consulting Forester is, much less what you do. While cruising timber and brokering sales are part of it, the work consists of much more. Let me tell you a little about what we do at Southeast Forestlands LLC.

Timber Broker

Of course, brokering timber sales is one of the most prominent functions of a Consulting Forester. We monitor the deal’s progress, ensure payments are made for the timber cut, prevent destructive logging practices, and ensure damage is repaired to the landowner’s satisfaction. If the landowner desires, we also oversee site preparation and reforestation activities. We prescribe and conduct burns as needed, help control invasive species (insect and plant), and conduct timber appraisals.

Tree Farm

Consulting Foresters can also assist a landowner in having their Tree Farm certified. A certified tree farm allows mills, wood dealers, and others in the industry to confirm that a forest has met the sustainability standards established by the American Tree Farm System. Landowners can enlist our help to improve and manage their timber stands for the best return on investment (ROI) and wildlife.

Certified Drone Pilots

Drones allow us to survey the property more safely, quickly, and accurately. In many cases, the terrain is too hard to navigate by foot, and with drones, we can still get the property’s details. We are FAA Part 107 UAV (Drone) Certified Pilots, enabling us to gain an aerial perspective of a tract and monitor logging progress from the air. Plus, they’re entertaining to fly!

Information Source

As experts in the field of Forestry, Consulting Foresters are your source for information on timber prices in Mississippi. By staying abreast of current timber market conditions, we can better counsel landowners on what to consider cutting and when. Timber companies in Mississippi know the market, so it benefits the seller to have a Consulting Forester in their corner to protect their interests and work toward the best ROI possible.

As you can see, the job of a Consulting Forester is limited only by imagination. We have tools and resources to assist landowners in the many phases of timber sales and harvest, land management, and wildlife habitat improvement. Call the professionals at Southeast Forestlands LLC today to schedule a consultation and learn how we can help you make the most informed decisions regarding your property.
