"After calling Southeast Forestlands I was contacted immediately. Eric sent satellite imagery and acreage, then called to explain his assessment. Although he couldn't accommodate me, I appreciated the time he spent sharing helpful information."

"Eric did a great job putting together a Forestry Management Plan for our family farm. He came to our farm, toured the property, assessed the different stands of timber and flew his drone to capture pictures and video. Very professionally done!"

Kemper County sits on the Alabama line in east central Mississippi. DeKalb is near the middle of it. What happens on a tract is decided one owner at a time.

Southeast Forestlands works only for the landowner. We do not buy timber and we are not paid by mills.

What the Ground Is Like

Most of the county rolls. Sandy and loamy ridges stay firm much of the year. Between them are clay flats and creek bottoms. Those hold water into late winter.

The east side drains toward the Sucarnoochee River, which starts in this county. Ground on that side is heavier and slicker than the ridges are.

So one tract can hold two very different work areas. A ridge that hauls fine in September may sit beside clay that ruts in February. Treat them as two areas with their own timing.

What That Means for a Sale or a Harvest

Three things matter most here. Check the way in before the timber is offered. The road into a place often crosses the wettest part of it.

Mark stream crossings and soft ground on a map before logging starts. Where they fall often sets the road plan.

Then look at the stands. Pine ground may be due for a thinning, a final cut, or new trees. The hardwood along the branches is a separate question.

Why the Tract Still Has to Be Walked

A countywide description is only a starting point. Property lines, timber type, stocking, wet spots, and access must be checked on the tract. A map alone cannot confirm them.

We also work with landowners in nearby counties, including Noxubee, Winston, Neshoba, Lauderdale, and Sumter (AL).

Common questions

Common Questions From Kemper County, MS Timberland Owners

It gets raised with the buyer immediately, in writing, against the contract terms. Most issues — a rutted road, a crossing that needs work, a deck in the wrong place — are fixable while the crew is still on the ground. That is the value of oversight.

The worst timing is starting after a buyer is already on the property with a number. Once an offer is on the table the clock is somebody else's. Cruising first puts the sequence back in the landowner's hands.

Because the only check we cash on a sale comes from the landowner. We do not buy timber, hold mill contracts, or own harvesting equipment. Bids arrive in writing and are opened where the landowner can watch it happen.

No. We can tell you what questions to ask, but a value comes from a cruise. Once the stand is measured and sorted by product, a timber appraisal gives you a defensible number for a sale, an estate filing, or a casualty loss on a tract in Kemper County.

Yes — a boundary line does not change the cruise. Kemper County lies in east-central Mississippi on the Alabama line, between the Black Belt and the Pine Belt, and we work Noxubee, Winston, Neshoba, Lauderdale, and Sumter (AL) as well, so a tract that straddles a line is handled as one job. Scheduling depends on access, weather, and current fieldwork.
