"Eric did a great job putting together a Forestry Management Plan for our family farm. He came to our farm, toured the property, assessed the different stands of timber and flew his drone to capture pictures and video. Very professionally done!"

"Incredibly knowledgeable in a variety of ways. Incredibly responsive (which is hard to find in this field). Polite, patient… very patient. Even in pandemic situations he kept things moving forward. Highly recommend."

Winston County lies in the hill country of east-central Mississippi. The land is a set of sandy ridges with narrow hollows cut between them. Water off the east side of the county drains toward the Noxubee. The ridges dry out first, and the hollows stay damp a good while longer.

Southeast Forestlands works only for the landowner. We do not buy timber and we are not paid by mills.

Ridges Dry, Hollows Stay Wet

Two parts of the same tract can be ready to work weeks apart.

Plan a harvest around that instead of fighting it. Cut the ridges when the hollows are still soft, then come back. A crew that tries to do it all at once ruts the wet ground, and those ruts stay.

The Road Is the Weak Point Here

On ground cut up like this, the road is the part of the job most likely to fail.

A well-placed road follows the high line and crosses water in as few spots as possible. Every extra crossing is another place that can wash. Get the layout right before a tree is marked.

Two Kinds of Timber, Two Cruises

Pine holds the ridges and shoulders. Hardwood comes up in the hollows without any help.

Hardwood quality changes a lot from one draw to the next, and it is graded log by log. Cruise them apart and offer them apart, so the hardwood is described on its own terms.

After the Cut

Replant the ground a machine can line out. On the steep faces and damp hollows, natural restocking is the usual plan, and it needs a walk to confirm seed trees and young stems.

Then get the roads and landings seeded and drained while the crew is still on the place. It is far cheaper than fixing a gully next year.

Nothing Beats Walking It

Your lines, your access, and your soft spots are yours alone.

A county description does not price a tract. A walk over it does.

Nearby Counties

We also work with landowners in nearby counties, including Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Noxubee, Kemper, Neshoba, and Attala.
