"After calling Southeast Forestlands I was contacted immediately. Eric sent satellite imagery and acreage, then called to explain his assessment. Although he couldn't accommodate me, I appreciated the time he spent sharing helpful information."

Yazoo County straddles two kinds of ground. The loess hills on the east drop to the Delta floodplain on the west. A tract on one side is worked nothing like a tract on the other.

Southeast Forestlands works only for the landowner. We do not buy timber and we are not paid by mills.

Wet Ground on the Delta Side

Close to two acres in five are mapped as ground that floods. Better than a third drains poorly. The two overlap on the flat side of the county.

Winter work down there is limited. Aim the low-ground harvest at late summer and fall. Build any road up instead of cutting it in.

Hills That Wash

About a fifth of the county sits on real slope, nearly all of it on the east side. Silt on grade erodes fast once bare.

Run skid trails across the slope. Put turnouts in while the job runs. Seed the trails before the crew moves off.

A Hard Layer in the Uplands

Roughly a fifth of the county has a tight layer within about three feet of the surface. Pine rooted that shallow crowds sooner than its age suggests. It also suffers more in a hot, dry summer.

Thin on stand thickness and tree size, not on the planting date.

Sequencing a Split Tract

Where a place carries both hills and bottom, the two halves are never ready at once. Cruise them apart and sell them apart.

Run the hill pine while the Yazoo River bottom is too soft to touch. Hold the bottom hardwood for a dry stretch.

Walk the Line Yourself

Where hill meets bottom on your own tract, and where water stands, are found on foot. The county pattern settles neither.

Nearby Counties

We also work with landowners in nearby counties, including Holmes, Madison, Hinds, Warren, Humphreys, Sharkey, and Issaquena.
