"Working with Eric helped us qualify our land as agricultural for property taxes. He cleared timber in a friendly way that pleased our neighbors, built a road into the property, and kept us apprised of every item in a timely fashion."

"Can't say enough good things about Southeast Forestlands. Even though my parcel wasn't a fit, Eric sent info and numbers of someone who could help. He took the time to inform me of common practice for clearing and harvesting timber."

Jefferson County still carries a lot of timber, most of it on ridges too steep for Birmingham to build on. Selling here is less about weather and more about access, neighbors, and what the land is worth afterward.

Southeast Forestlands works only for the landowner. We do not buy timber and we are not paid by mills.

Woods Next to a City

Despite Birmingham, this county still holds a great deal of forest land. Much of it is on ground too steep to build on.

Mapped urban land is a real category here, and it borders a lot of what is left.

Shallow Ridges

Soil survey mapping puts well over a third of the county in a single shallow, shaly association, on slopes from six to forty-five percent.

Shallow soil over rock means smaller trees and shorter rotations than the same species on deeper ground.

Almost Nothing Floods

Mapping puts better than nine tenths of the county outside any flood class. Working season is rarely the constraint.

Access through developed areas usually is.

Selling Timber Near Town

Haul routes, weight limits, working hours, dust, and noise all matter on a tract near houses.

These are contract terms. Settled up front they are manageable; settled later they become disputes.

Timber and Land Value Together

On ground with development interest, a harvest changes how the property looks and what the land is worth afterward.

We do not give legal or tax advice. We do think the timber decision should be made alongside the land decision.

Nearby Counties

We also work with landowners in nearby counties, including Walker (AL), Bibb (AL), and Tuscaloosa (AL).
