"Working with Eric helped us qualify our land as agricultural for property taxes. He cleared timber in a friendly way that pleased our neighbors, built a road into the property, and kept us apprised of every item in a timely fashion."

Lauderdale County is Alabama's northwest corner, north of the Tennessee River around Florence. Hardwood runs the county, on gravelly ridges that drain fast.

Southeast Forestlands works only for the landowner. We do not buy timber and we are not paid by mills.

Hardwood Runs the County

Forest inventory estimates put better than seven acres in ten of this county's forest land in oak and hickory.

Anyone marketing this timber as a pine tract does not know the county.

Chert Changes the Site

Bodine and Fullerton soils here are full of chert gravel. They drain fast and hold little water.

Trees on those ridges grow slower and stay smaller than the same species on the Dickson flats. That difference belongs in the cruise, not in an average.

Farm and Forest Mixed

Forest land is a smaller share of this county than in most of the region. Much of the gentler ground stays in crops and pasture.

Woodlots are often small, irregular, and tucked between fields, which affects what a logging job costs to move in for.

Grade Is the Whole Game

With this much hardwood, log quality determines value. Species and grade drive the price far more than tonnage does.

A cruise that reports only volume is not telling you what you own.

Thinning Hardwood

Crowded hardwood stands can be improved by taking out the culls and leaving the best stems room to grow.

It is not glamorous work, but on ridges this dry it is usually the highest-return decision available.

Nearby Counties

We also work with landowners in nearby counties, including Colbert (AL), Lawrence (AL), and Tishomingo (MS).
