"Eric did a great job putting together a Forestry Management Plan for our family farm. He came to our farm, toured the property, assessed the different stands of timber and flew his drone to capture pictures and video. Very professionally done!"

Alcorn County sits in the far northeast corner of Mississippi, above Corinth, where old cotton ridges have grown back into timber. The ground here was farmed hard once, and the forest still shows it.

Southeast Forestlands works only for the landowner. We do not buy timber and we are not paid by mills.

Old Farm Ground Shows Up in the Timber

A lot of this county was row-cropped hard before it went back to trees. Soil maps still show large blocks of gullied land mixed in with the Ruston and Smithdale ridges.

That history matters. Trees on scoured ground grow slower than the same species two ridges over.

More Hardwood Than People Expect

Forest inventory estimates put oak and hickory ahead of planted pine as the largest share here. Pine is common, but it is usually the second or third thing on a tract.

That changes how a sale is put together. Hardwood is graded and sold differently than pulpwood, and mixing the two into one lump number costs the owner.

Bottoms Along the Hatchie

The Hatchie River starts in this county. Soil survey mapping puts about one acre in five countywide in an occasional flood class, concentrated along the drainages.

Those strips grow good hardwood and poor pine. Leave them in hardwood and cross them only where planned.

Roads Are Half the Job

Steep sides and old gullies limit where a truck can turn around. On a tract like this the road decision usually comes before the harvest decision.

An old road bed that has grown shut can often be reopened cheaper than cutting a new one.

Before You Sell

Get the timber measured and get the hardwood separated out by product. Then take offers.

Selling by the lump without knowing what is standing is where most money is lost.
